Still, Desktop Wins

Just this morning, I posted a status on my Facebook asking for other’s views on what they prefer – desktop or laptop. I was surprised to see that all of them answered desktop. I did the quick survey because personally, I prefer laptop simply because I am more comfortable slouching in bed the whole day and in this cold weather, I just can’t afford to sit still on a desk.
Before I read their response, the only reason I know why families purchase desktop is because it’s stationed in one place and parents can monitor their kids’ computer activities. I didn’t know most families now still prefer desktop because of various reasons. Some say they are still more comfortable using desktop because they’re used to it. Desktop keyboards, they say, are more user-friendly than those in laptop. Most prefer desktop because of common reasons – desktops are faster, the memory is bigger and all programs can run at the same time with little problem. Also, parts of a desktop can be upgraded – keyboard, memory, motherboard, cd rom, etc. – while in a laptop, only the memory can be upgraded.
I realized, they are right. While laptops are good for its portability, still desktops can do a lot more. Then I got even more convinced upon seeing this Dell Inspiron All-in-One Desktop. It has the added benefit of space-saving design, clean aesthetics, and optional multi-touch display technology. I watched the youtube Video and I guess it’s very kid-friendly. Further information can be found here – if you have time, please let me know what you think because I’m seriously interested. By the way, I’m now using Dell Studio and I have already proven how good Dell’s customer service is. They are just so prompt in dealing with queries. Spyware for Kid’s PC
Do you have techie kids? Do they have their own Facebook accounts and update it by themselves? Or are they old enough to navigate the world wide web?
Well, as for me, I have a daughter who’s confident in working her way through the different technologies available within her reach. She’s actually my co-owner in both my iPhone and laptop. So far, she only knows how to play and watch online – good thing she isn’t familiar with Facebook yet.
She’s only 5 though so I’m not worried yet about her online activities, but I know soon enough she’ll know that there’s so much more beyond Kidzui and Youtube. As a parent, I know I have the responsibility to restrict her activities online and I don’t want her to feel that being harsh is the only way like not letting her access them at all. There are actually a keylogger like SentryPC that we can install in the PC that our kids use so without us emphasizing the sites they shouldn’t visit, the PC itself will do the job. It will log, notify and block internet contents that may not be suitable for kids. By using this, we can be more at ease with our kid’s on the web.

TV Craze

I remember way back in the Philippines, all we wanted was a flat screen TV and flat screen then means the literal “screen that’s flat”, but still with a hunchback style body. Then when hubby transferred here, he bought an HD-Ready TV that’s 42″ and for us, it’s already big and we’re contented with its very clear resolution and vibrant and lively colors. Last year he was eyeing for an HDTV with a bigger screen and now an HD-3D??? How crazy is our technology getting? They said a TV’s lifespan is 10 years, but with the companies bringing out new creations almost every year means that they are encouraging consumers to change their TVs sooner, and it also means a more empty pocket, but a better income for them. Oh well, reality is – it benefits both the producers and consumers so let’s just ride with the fast pacing life in this crazy technology-dependent world, anyways it still depends on people’s choice.
