School is cool!

A friend recently migrated to the US and was very excited to go back to school, online schooling that is. She is currently pregnant with her first child and so to kill the boredom away for the next 9 months she decided to enroll in childcare training.

Choosing an affordable and reputable school that offers online accredited degrees was a tough one and you may be somewhat unsure of ho w to proceed. Of course the first step is to research – read feedbacks and forums. Also list all the possible school that looks promising and ideally contact the school by telephone.

With an online school learning set up, your teacher can focus on you, one on one which is quite hard to do when you’re in a traditional school with all your other classmates around. With online accredited degrees, you can further your education without having to compromise your other schedules.

San Beda Red Lions: Sweet Victory 18-0

This is one of the many things that makes me proud of being a Bedan. It akes me hold my head up high wherever I go. The Bedan virtues have been engraved in my heart the moment I stepped in the Beda grounds and been furnished when I stepped out of the Bedan’s historical gate wearing my red graduation toga.

I can still remember how we rush off from school to watch and cheer for the Red Lions and how we sing the Bedan Hymn after every game won. Whenever there’s a project that’s needed to be done, we make sure that we do it right on time – rush of to the computer shop and Velo Bind them so everything’s done and we can cheer for joy without us worrying what to pass the next school day.

Now, for the first time, we have been unbeatable. 18 wins out of 18 games is something we all are proud of. It’s just so uplifting to be called a Bedan.

That in all things, God may be glorified.

Test Preparations Before Going to College

I can’t remember if I have taken any mandatory tests before I go to college and because no one among my high school classmates are online at the moment for me to ask, then I guess I’ll just have to trust my memory. Meaning, NONE!

In the Philippines, they say it’s called NCEE (National College Entrance Exam) before, changed to NSAT (National Seconday Assessment Test) and now NCAE (National College Assessment Exam). In UK, they have what they call GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and A-levels and in the US, they have SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). Students in US also undergo sat prep to be sure that they will do good in the actual test. I believe there are other acronyms out there, but their main purpose is just the same – to assess the possible courses students are to take in college.

What is your say about this? According to Mr./Ms. C.J in his comment on the other blog I read about this same topic, which I now quote “The NCEE is a worthless standardized test that bars all hope for a student ever getting through college… Those who fail the NCEE apparently have no choice but to settle for a lousy 2-year course like nursing… or worse: “care-taking” (I personally have no ambition of becoming one of the 3 mil. maids abroad – to join our country’s yaya workforce) It’s just another government ploy to separate the “wheat from the chaff” – the academic nerds and “underachievers”. Not all of us are excellent test-takers. Not all nerds and smart geeks actually excel/succeed/become productive members of society. Not all valedictorians end up becoming the CEO’s of the world’s biggest companies. Everyone deserves a chance.” I will live the judgement to your own views.

As for me, I partially believe he’s right. Students who didn’t excell in high school don’t necessarily mean they still won’t in college, and vice versa. Entering college means a fresh and new beginning to students, maybe this is just what they are waiting for so judging them in their high school performance alone, for me isn’t right.
