The Good in Britain’s Crazy Weather

Whenever a friend, old or new, gets the chance to chat with me, the first question most of the time is, “Where are you now?” followed by, “Oh, how’s the weather there?” when I answered that I’m currently living in London. I believe people has this notion that UK has really got a crazy weather. Well, I would somehow agree because I just experienced a rainy and breezy summer. And I can feel that winter is coming early this year. Oh, gosh! Shivering splendid once again.
But then, for the amateur photographers, there is something good in Britain’s crazy weather. Why? Because Lloyds TSB are now looking for the British weather photographer of the year who could win £10,000. The contest runs from April 13th to September 30th. It’s a summer, but as everyone knows, English summer offers not only a bright and sunny sky, but a good twist every now and then.
And because I am proud to have gotten somewhere outside London, and counting myself as an amateur photographer (as if
) I submitted my photo taken at the Menai Bridge in North Wales when we had our 3-day holiday.

So, if you are a UK resident and have a photograph taken in the UK that shows the weather, submit them (one or more) and who knows? You might be the lucky winner of £10,000.

Filipinos Need to Respect the Road

As a Filipino living in the land of the English, I can very well see the differences that British and Filipino drivers have. The discipline that every driver needs to have is not observed by most of the Filipino drivers that’s why the roads are jammed, traffic is massive and so many road accidents everywhere. There are many rules and regulations that the LTO (Land and Transportation Office) has released, but aside from lacking of the ability to enforce them, I guess the main problem is that they make it so easy for everyone to get a license as well as get a car.
Here in UK, every individual must go through a very difficult process before they can have their full driving license and the cost is not a joke. The tests are difficult too and drivers have to prove that they understand all the rules and that they will become responsible drivers and be able to say, “I respect the road“.
Insurance is a requirement too. Every car owner must have an insurance attached, not only to himself, but also to the car he’s driving. He can also not just drive any car wherein he’s not covered under such insurance. Hubby is now looking at the AXA Car Insurance and he’s finding it affordable and reliable. He also came across the AXA Respect On The Road website and he was able to see the possible road threats that other experienced drivers shared and he’s being more aware how great responsibilities he will have when he starts driving. He’s a father and he has to know how to take good care of himself as well as his family – on the road.
It’s funny to see how adults act like kids on the real road. This is entertaining and really worth watching. Hubby and I also shared this on Facebook for our friends to see.
And here’s another video of a road-safety campaign.
If only Filipinos can know how to respect the road and authorities will implement a much stricter guidelines, I am sure that the Philippines will become a better place.
